Peritoneal Dialysis
Peritoneal dialysis makes use of the lining of the patient's abdomen as the filter.
A tube has to be inserted into the patient's abdomen.
A sterile solution (called a dialysate) is instilled into the patient's abdomen through this tube.
While the solution is inside the patient, it absorbs the metabolic waste, toxins and extra fluid from the blood in the blood vessels around the abdomen.
The used solution with the waste contained will be drained from the abdomen into a bag after approximately 30minutes.
